Sapa is a small, mountain town in Lao Cai Province. It is located about 350 km northwest of Hanoi, close to the Chinese border. Here's where you'll find the Hoang Lien Son range of mountains, which includes Fan Si Pan—the country's highest peak.

This quiet Vietnamese town is home to different ethnic tribal groups. There are five main ethnic groups in Sapa: the Hmong, Dao, Tay, Giay and Xa Pho. It is said that Sapa was first occupied by the first four groups, since the Vietnamese from the lowlands (better known as the Kinh) did not colonise the highest valleys.

These days, Sapa welcomes a diverse range of visitors, attracted by the highland tribes, iconic rice paddies and forest treks. The whole area is blessed with awe-inspiring natural beauty.

Day 1: Hanoi - Sapa (Cat Cat Village)
1

06.20: Our limousine will pick you up at your hotel in Hanoi's Old Quarter and depart for Sapa following the Noi Bai–Lao Cai highway. You'll be able to admire the beauty of the northwest mountains, terraced fields gleaming in the sun or dim in thick fog, as you travel. Have two short breaks of 30 minutes each and then continue the trip to Sapa.

13.00: Arrive in Sapa, eat lunch, and check in at the hotel.

14.30: You will start hiking to Cat Cat Village, which is occupied by the Black H’mong tribe. Here, you can see the hydroelectric power station, which was built by the French in the twentieth century. You will experience the tribal way of life of ethnic minorities while enjoying wonderful views of the terraced rice paddy fields and the waterfall in Cat Cat village. Visitors will also understand culture, unique customs, and traditional crafts such as weaving, touching carved silver, forging agricultural tools, etc. Come back to the hotel.

18h30: Having dinner.

After dinner, you are free to explore the charm of Sapa by night, enjoy roasted corn and baked eggs beside a charcoal fire, or go shopping. Especially on Saturday nights, we highly recommend a stop at the Love Market, one of the unique cultures of the ethnic minorities in northwest Vietnam.
